American Politics, 1776

If you, like me, have ever found yourself lamenting how politics has become such a rotten undertaking, then I have a book that will give you a whole new way of thinking.

I just finished reading Declaration: The Nine Tumultuous Weeks When America Became Independent, May 1-July 4, 1776. It tells the story of what happened during the final two months leading up to the July 4, 1776 declaration of American independence. It was fascinating!

Super Staycation Day Three

Day three of our staycation 2011 included a visit to the tide pools of Pt. Loma and the cliffs over looking the ocean at Nazarene University.  The hike down (and back up!) to the cliffs was steep but not too bad.  It was well worth it.

We had lunch at Phil's BBQ near the Sports Arena.  I don't know about Paula, but I ate too much.  We were served huge plates of delicious food.  Couldn't leave it behind.

We wrapped the day up with a visit to Mt. Soledad War Memorial.  The setting provides a spectacular view of San Diego and the surrounding area.  But the highlight is the memorial.  A great tribute to a lot of brave and patriotic people.

Tomorrow we're off to visit friends in Claremont, then to the Santa Monica Pier.

Day Two and Counting

Today is Day Two of a couple of important endeavors.  It's the second day of my project to realize my passion for story telling and writing.  I'm doing this by writing something every day.  And, it is day two of a week of vacation that I plan to enjoy a lot.

We are actually enjoying a "staycation", like so many other people in this time of financial strain and uncertainty.  Yesterday was mostly just like any other Sunday for us.  We did a few chores around the house and then relax for the afternoon and evening.

Then today we ran around doing tasks such as getting a haircut, buying a few groceries and getting a smog check on our car.  That last task was a story in itself.

First Step of a Journey of Passion

I've always had a deep passion for reading. As a young boy, I'd read anything: cereal boxes, newspapers, encyclopedias, dictionaries. You name it, I read it.

As an adult, I have at times let the mundane requirements of life keep me from reading. Or, at least, not reading as much as I would like. Over the past year I have made certain arrangements to my daily routine that have allowed me to have the time to read a little almost every day.

I recently finished reading The Year's Best Science Fiction: Twenty-Sixth Annual Collection. I found it to be an thrilling look at futures and alternatives that we may or may not ever witness. Still, they present concepts that gave me cause to wonder about the possibilities.

Then, today I found myself without any of the books on my wish list
